The special connection: Ben and his passion for cats

I have always had a special connection to nature and the creatures that populate our world. I have been surrounded by animals since I was a child. I spent a lot of time on farmer Ernst’s farm in Bünzwangen, where I grew up. A funny anecdote from that time is when I was six years old and asked a lady in the supermarket why she had filled her shopping trolley completely with cat food. She told me that she had just had kittens and invited us round without further ado. A short time later, we adopted one of the cats and took it into our family. From that moment on, there were six of us – my two brothers, my parents and me.

During my studies, I then adopted a cat who stayed with me for many years. In 2016, my first Ragdolls vom Wasenwald from Angelika moved in with me, followed by my breeding cat Adorinda’s Estefania in 2022. And so here I am today, the proud owner of Nordlyshine Ragdolls. As an adventure sportsman and IT consultant, I am often travelling in a fast-paced, technology-driven world. But when I come home, I find a deep calm and serenity in my Ragdolls that grounds me. They are more than just pets – they are my haven of peace, my daily balance and an integral part of my life.

It fascinates me how these impressive creatures, despite their animalistic nature as carnivores, can form such a symbiotic relationship.

Their presence always reminds me that there is so much more to this world than just the everyday challenges that we humans often impose on ourselves – wars, diseases, environmental destruction. My relationship with my cats shows me the diversity and beauty of life on this earth to me.

The love for the traditional Old English Ragdolls did not come overnight, but developed over years. It started with a simple desire to give these calm, gentle cats a home, but soon the desire to actively contribute to the preservation of this special breed grew stronger. In 2022, my first breeding cat moved in with me – and since then, Nordlyshine has been an integral part of my life.

My Ragdolls are an integral part of my everyday life and they show me every day how valuable life in harmony with nature can be.

My Mentors

Special thanks to Angelika, who gave me my first Ragdolls. She not only gave me an introduction to this wonderful breed, but also kindled my love for these gentle souls.

I am equally grateful to Melanie. She lives together with her partner, her children and a multitude of animals – cats, dogs, chickens and horses – in a harmony that is simply admirable. Melanie is not just a friend, but the best mentor imaginable. She has accompanied and supported me for the last six months with her wisdom, experience and patience. Her loving nature towards both animals and people is inspiring and I am deeply grateful for all the care and support she has given me during this time. Without her, Nordlyshine would not be what it is today.
